2007-02-16 [.ash.]: Well... Some rap, yes, it is pretty bad. I'd like to hear some of you come up with the rhyming scheme that some pretty good rappers come up with. I would say that I'm not trying to defend rap as a whole, it's just, I can't find a single genre of music that I don't like. I admire people with talent, whether I find the music something I would listen to every day. I wouldn't go as far to say that rap is crap, if you don't like it, you don't like it. I'm not a fan of country. I don't think it is crap, I just don't enjoy it to it's full potential that the artists are trying to acheive. I think that over all, music is music, and there isn't much music that doesn't take talent. Take punk rock for an example. I could say it's crap because it's the same chords over and over and over again, the same lyrics, the same shallow drum beat. I could put down hard core rock, screaming at the top of your lungs, wow so interesting, wtf right? I could put down even my favourite bands if I wanted to, but the reason is, they have talent. Punk music, they have talent, I can't play the drums...Hard core? I wish I could scream like that. Don't put down something you can't acheive, but at the same time, keep your opinion. Here's another clichè but I think it's awesome. Opinions, they're like assholes, everybody has one, and they all stink.

Heavy Metal, the drummers are insane, just to be able to play bass drum -which is usually one of the easier things- like they do is not an easy thing to do.
Country you have to appreciate for the lyrics really, because they will tell you exactly what life is.
But rap, no the lyrics are what makes rap and all they are (mostly not always) is saying "I WANT MONEY" thats why i don't like rap, because unlike everyone else, to be a rap artist is just a way to make money and make yourself look huge even if your not.
So yes you can like music period for what it is (thats why i listen to everything and once in a while have to endure through rap) but honestly I like it for the message they convey. Because every bit of music, heavy metal, country, punk, ska all of that (probably even rap once in a while like Toy Soldiers from Eminem (just an example)) convey a message of life. I listen to music for that, and once in a while the sweet riffs lol.

I find that interesting. But again, it still takes talent. One of my favourite rap groups is Bone Thugz N' Harmony. They don't rap mostly about money... I think what you are trying to get at is the fact that they are mostly boastful. And if you think that rap lyrics are mostly about money, you must not listen to a lot of rap...
And yes, general "punk" music is in the same key, the same rhythm. What makes punk music is that it is: Loud, the lyrics (usually about violence, drinking or the government and it is usually against whatever is the "mainstream" pop culture), the key and strum pattern of the guitar (and crazy bass line), and the obnoxious beat... Not that I don't like punk music. It's not something I listen to everyday.
But back to rap. When I say rap, I'm speaking in general terms. Some people associate good hip-hop with rap artists like the Yingyang Twins and Chingy. Though not my favourites, they have a few songs I can jam to.
It all comes down to talent. Whether you think it takes talent or not to speak quickly and come up with the rhyming scheme that the artists come up with is up to you.
I guess it comes down to why you listen to music. Music is my life. I play it, I create it, I listen to it.

And the beat will only sound obnoxious because at times there trying to set something that people can dance/mosh to, if you leave it mellow and such for all your songs, that not possible, people wont come to see you. Course mainly with dancing to punk like music can only be done with Ska. ^^
anyways enough with music it was shown a while ago, people will like different things for different reasons.

Besides that, music is a very personal thing, making blind steriotypes about other genres is kinda stupid though. Yes, they are the rap songs about "My minds on my money and my moneys on my mind". I also listen to Ska Punk: Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Catch-22, Reel big fish as well as Celtic Punk: Flogging molly and Dropkick murphys. I can drop names quick as I like for punk bands, I still love 'em but I still stick to my statement. It's not really an arguing point. I believe what I belive and you believe what you believe. I'm not saying that I'm right and your not. I'm stating what I believe, and as we should all know beliefs are personal things.
